Seodaemun-gu, which was finally selected as a ‘2024 Environmental Education City’ by the Ministry of Environment in September this year under the ‘Act on the Activation and Support of Environmental Education,’ will use this forum to share its excellent environmental education policy know-how with local governments nationwide.

The district has steadily built a foundation for promoting environmental education through the enactment of environmental education ordinances, establishment of a basic environmental education center, declaration as an environmental education city, formulation of a comprehensive environmental education plan, and mandatory environmental education for 5-year-old children and staff.

Additionally, based on the mayor’s firm commitment to promoting an environmental education city, Seodaemun-gu has systematized local government-centered environmental education by directly managing the ‘Seodaemun-gu Happy Green Center’ and the ‘Seodaemun-gu Re&Upcycle Plaza (Resource Revival Center).’

Furthermore, the district has produced ‘Children’s Environmental Education Storybooks’ set against local backgrounds such as Hongjecheon Stream and Ansan, developed and distributed environmental education programs for residents by life cycle, and launched the ‘Climate Moa’ application to practice carbon neutrality, among other environmental education policies.

In his keynote speech, Mayor Lee will share this policy know-how and also present the vision of ‘30% of 300,000 residents, nurturing 90,000 environmental citizens.’ Mayor Lee said, “I am honored to introduce the ‘Seodaemun-type environmental education model’ to other local governments through the forum, and I will work even harder on environmental education in collaboration with local universities, environmental education institutions, and residents with a strong sense of mission as an environmental education city.”
