Kim Dong-yeon "Gyeonggi-do Leads Drive to Become a Comprehensive Semiconductor Powerhouse"

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is accelerating the semiconductor drive.

On the 18th, Governor Kim attended the 'Policy Agreement Ceremony for Leap to a Comprehensive Semiconductor Powerhouse' held at the National Assembly Library and proposed, "Let Gyeonggi Province, the Democratic Party Semiconductor Forum lawmakers, and the semiconductor industry form a 'one team.'"

Earlier, last month, Governor Kim went on a business trip to Europe and visited ASML, the world's No.1 semiconductor lithography equipment company in the Netherlands, and ASM, a deposition equipment company. He also secured an agreement (MOU) from ASM to purchase products worth 3 trillion won over the next six years from companies in Gyeonggi Province.

Perhaps because of this, at the agreement ceremony, Kim Tae-nyeon, a five-term lawmaker and representative of the Democratic Party Semiconductor Forum, called Governor Kim the 'Semiconductor Governor.'

In his congratulatory speech, Governor Kim said, "I once again express regret that the government is not properly recognizing the current economic situation and is failing to do what needs to be done according to the path our economy should take," and emphasized, "It is time for South Korea to seriously consider what industrial policies it will adopt to foster the semiconductor industry, how to maintain the ultra-gap advantages we have achieved, and how to reinforce the areas where we have been somewhat lacking."

He continued, "In that regard, today's agreement is truly timely and meaningful," and promised, "Gyeonggi Province will do its best in all aspects, including the creation of a semiconductor mega cluster, expansion of the supply chain, technology development, and workforce training."

He also added, "Gyeonggi Province is actively promoting the Semiconductor Special Act and further the RE100 three laws, and I hope these bills will be passed quickly so that we can lead the way for the semiconductor industry's future."

After the agreement ceremony, when asked by reporters, "There are talks about the need for a Plan B for the Democratic Party's presidential candidate following the first trial ruling on Representative Lee Jae-myung's election law case. What is your opinion, and do you have any future activity plans?" Governor Kim replied, "I don't think this is the time to discuss such things now."

He particularly pointed out, "Look carefully at the current situation. There is a dusting-off style investigation against the opposition leader, while investigations against the living power are being suppressed. I cannot help but criticize whether this is proper rule of law or democracy."

He then emphasized, "In the current situation, it is time for the government, the National Assembly, and the Democratic Party to accept the special prosecutor for President Yoon Suk-yeol and focus on people's livelihoods together."
