Leaking Unemployment Benefits... 46 Individuals Including Fraudulent Recipients and Employers Caught

Many individuals who falsely reported employment insurance and fraudulently received unemployment benefits have been arrested.

The Busan Employment and Labor Office announced on the 18th that it conducted a planned investigation targeting women who left construction sites and booked 46 people, including those who fraudulently received benefits.

According to the Labor Office, Ms. A, who voluntarily resigned and did not meet the eligibility criteria for unemployment benefits, asked a relative who was a construction site manager to report employment insurance for daily construction workers, and based on this, falsely reported unemployment to receive about 10 million won in unemployment benefits.

Freelancer B, who worked in sales, requested a construction site manager with whom he was acquainted to enroll him in employment insurance after his income decreased due to COVID-19 and other reasons. After fulfilling the insurance enrollment period, he applied for unemployment benefits and received about 8 million won.

The Labor Office stated that B showed meticulousness by going to the construction site every day to stamp attendance in order to conceal the false employment insurance enrollment before going to his sales destinations.

The Busan Employment and Labor Office ordered the return of a total of 760 million won, including 440 million won in fraudulent unemployment benefits and additional collection amounts, and also booked employers who conspired in the fraudulent claims.

A representative of the Busan Employment and Labor Office said, "If you voluntarily report fraudulent claims, you can be exempted from up to five times the additional collection. Please visit the employment center or submit a report online."
