Terminal Operators Also Participate in Producing 1,800 Units... Delivered to Vulnerable Groups Through Hope Storage
Busan Port Authority (BPA) delivered ‘Waste Resource Circulation Emotional Stability Flowerpot DIY Kits’ made from recycled waste resources to underprivileged groups on the 18th, together with Busan Port terminal operators.
The flowerpot kit making involved BPA and nine Busan Port terminal operators (Bukhang HKT, BPT, Shinhang PNIT, PNC, HJNC, HPNT, BNCT, BCT, DGT).
BPA and the operators agreed to help activate a virtuous cycle economy through the recycling of waste resources generated around Busan Port and to prevent solitary deaths among the underprivileged, producing 1,800 flowerpot DIY kits.
The plastic bottle caps used as materials were collected from September to October, totaling 400 kg, through the participation of BPA employees, general citizen volunteers, and with the cooperation of Dong-gu Senior Club and Busan Port Facilities Management Center.
The collected bottle caps were upcycled into flowerpots and watering cans by the social enterprise specializing in upcycling, ‘Wooshisan,’ and the soil using coffee grounds was made by ‘Ipul,’ a small business in the Busan area.
Among the flowerpot DIY kits packaged by BPA and Busan Port terminal operators’ employees volunteering, 1,600 kits were delivered to vulnerable households through 16 BPA Hope Pantries located in Busan and Gyeongnam, and the remaining 200 kits will be used for a flowerpot-making experience activity with underprivileged children by visiting a welfare center near Busan Port Shinhang at the end of November.
BPA President Kang Jun-seok said, “I hope the plastic recycled flowerpot kits will help stabilize the emotions of vulnerable groups in welfare blind spots,” and added, “We will continue to strive for mutual growth between Busan Port and the local community.”
