Global private equity firm Apollo announced on the 18th that it has opened a Seoul branch and appointed former Samsung Securities Vice President Lee Jae-hyun as partner and head of Korea.
Lee, who recently served as head of the Corporate Finance (IB) Division 1 at Samsung Securities, will lead Apollo's efforts to expand its workforce in Korea, develop capital formation strategies, and build relationships with local financial institutions.
Lee has worked at Korea Long-Term Credit Bank, KPMG, J.P. Morgan, and Goldman Sachs. Before joining Samsung Securities, he served as head of BNP Paribas IB Korea and head of Goldman Sachs Investment Division Korea.
Apollo appointed Dr. Jung Sam-young, a Yonsei University professor and Asia-Pacific regional senior advisor for the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), as its Asia-Pacific academic advisor.
Scott Kleinman, Co-Head of Apollo Asset Management, said, "Korea is one of the major financial hubs," adding, "We expect many opportunities to provide Apollo's diverse asset management solutions and flexible, creative capital solutions that domestic companies need."
Matt Michelini, Apollo partner and Asia-Pacific regional head, stated, "We will strive to deliver safe excess returns through collaboration with institutional investors such as pension funds and insurance companies," adding, "Especially in a market environment where credit-focused short- and long-term retirement asset management solutions are increasingly needed, we will play a positive role."
Lee said, "I look forward to continuing strong momentum in the region by collaborating with Apollo's global organization, including Asia."
