Wando County announced on the 18th that it received the Encouragement Award at the '2024 Jeollanam-do Wildfire Ground Suppression and Integrated Command Competition' recently held at the Danoje Transmission Center area in Yeonggwang County.
The 'Wildfire Ground Suppression and Integrated Command Competition' was hosted by the Jeonnam branch of the Korea Wildfire Prevention Technology Association and organized by Jeollanam-do, with over 500 officials from 22 cities and counties participating. In this competition, Wando County achieved a consecutive award for the second year, following last year's Grand Prize.

The competition simulates wildfire situations, where teams of 10 members from each city and county compete in establishing and operating command centers, using suppression vehicles, portable water tanks, backpack pumps, and other firefighting equipment. Additionally, rankings are determined by evaluating the establishment of on-site command systems, response capabilities, and proficiency in operating wildfire suppression systems.
The county was evaluated to have demonstrated appropriate integrated command systems and rapid ground suppression capabilities according to the types of wildfire occurrences, as a result of regularly strengthening wildfire suppression capabilities through mechanized system operations and job training in preparation for the wildfire caution period.
Park Eun-jae, Director of the Forest Recreation Division, stated, “We will continue to do our best to protect the safety of residents and forest resources from wildfires through ongoing training and improvement of equipment operation skills.”
