First Domestic Introduction of Public Bicycle System

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam has stood out as the first and best in the public bicycle sector nationwide.

Changwon Special City announced on the 18th that it recently received the first certification plaque in the 3rd Government Innovation First and Best Certification category hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Public Bicycle (Nubija) First Certified in Korea.

The ‘Government Innovation First and Best’ aims to select and certify institutions that have introduced innovative cases that improve the quality of life for citizens for the first time and institutions that operate excellently in specific fields, thereby spreading government innovation achievements domestically and internationally.

Changwon Special City contributed to citizens’ healthy lives by introducing the nation’s first public bicycle system in 2008. In 2023, it fully transitioned to the ‘Shared Plus Nubija’ system, which allows easy bicycle use anytime and anywhere by introducing an app system that simplifies rental and return, and significantly expanding the bicycle terminal called ‘Nubizon.’

Additionally, various projects are being promoted to revitalize bicycle use, including ▲additional introduction of Nubija and expansion of terminals ▲promotion of bicycle road construction projects on idle railway land ▲operation of free rental stations on the Nakdong River bicycle path ▲bicycle safety education.

Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, “This award in the government innovation first certification category is the result of Changwon City’s continuous efforts,” and added, “We will continue to pursue creative and challenging innovations that can improve the quality of life for our citizens.”
