Yeongdeok-gun Promotes Amendment of Related Ordinance for 'Waste Collection Efficiency'

Change of Waste Sack from 80 to 20 kg, Addition of 10ℓ Reusable Bag

Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, will officially implement an improvement plan based on the revised Waste Management Ordinance as of the 4th, changing the market waste-exclusive 80kg sacks to 20kg sacks exclusively for non-combustible waste, and adding 10ℓ reusable volume-based bags.

This revision reflects the Ministry of Environment's guidelines for implementing volume-based waste fees and is a measure that simultaneously considers the safety of sanitation workers and the convenience of residents.

The existing 80kg market waste-exclusive sacks were criticized for being too heavy and inconvenient, causing musculoskeletal disorders among sanitation workers and hindering their work.

To improve this, Yeongdeok-gun expects that reducing the capacity to 20kg sacks exclusively for non-combustible waste will enhance convenience and reduce the workload of sanitation workers, enabling safer operations.

However, the policy is to continue using all market waste-exclusive sacks produced and supplied so far until they are completely used up, after which the non-combustible waste-exclusive sacks will be applied.

In addition, the revision newly adds 10ℓ reusable volume-based bags to resolve inconveniences for general retail businesses and residents and to promote efficient waste collection.

Kim Myeong-hee, Director of the Environmental Sanitation Division, stated, “We will strive to ensure that there are no disruptions in implementation by considering various variables arising during the waste collection process to realize this revised ordinance, which aims to create an efficient and safe waste management environment and reflect the Ministry of Environment’s volume-based waste fee guidelines.”
