University Student's 'Random Stabbing' Leaves 25 Casualties... "Frustration Over Graduation Failure," Chinese Police Arrest Suspect On Scene

An incident occurred at a university in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, eastern China, where a college student dissatisfied with poor working conditions and failing to graduate carried out a indiscriminate stabbing.

According to Xinhua News Agency on the 17th, the Yixing Public Security Bureau announced the day before, "At around 6:30 PM on the 16th, a stabbing incident occurred at Yixing Wuxi Vocational and Technical College of Arts and Crafts." It was confirmed that 8 people died and 17 were injured in this incident.

The Yixing Public Security Bureau released preliminary investigation results stating that the suspect, Xu Mo (21), a graduate of this school this year, committed the crime due to dissatisfaction with failing the exam and not receiving a diploma, as well as complaints about unpaid internship wages. Xu was caught at the scene and is understood to have confessed to the crime.

Local media reported that in a suicide note left online by Xu, he pointed out issues such as wage arrears and long working hours as labor condition problems.

According to the suicide note circulated online, Xu claimed, "The factory maliciously withholds wages, does not pay insurance (social insurance), does not provide overtime pay, fines me, and does not pay compensation," and added, "Workers inside the factory work desperately in two or three shifts every day, working 16 hours a day without a single day off in a month."

Regarding the university that did not grant him a diploma, he said, "The school maliciously blocked my diploma and did not let me graduate, and everyone bullies me," and "I will thoroughly wash away my humiliation. I intend to expose this matter."
