The Yongsan-gu Volunteer Center provides customized services for housing-vulnerable groups tailored to the characteristics and conditions of the region. To this end, it discovers local companies and fosters volunteer groups to encourage voluntary participation. In addition, through regular housing environment improvement projects, it takes the lead in bridging the housing environment gap and expanding cultural contact opportunities for marginalized groups.
The Yongsan-gu Volunteer Center has provided various support such as wallpaper and flooring replacement, LED light replacement, and gas stove installation to housing-vulnerable groups in cooperation with local community companies. By fostering organizing and storage volunteer groups, it has improved the housing environment of vulnerable groups, and during the summer, it also worked to alleviate housing instability amid the climate crisis through rainwater drain cleaning activities.
Lee Jong-du, Director of the Yongsan-gu Volunteer Center, stated, "We will continuously discover and promote projects that residents can genuinely relate to through volunteer activities reflecting regional characteristics."
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "This Excellence Award is an achievement made possible by the combined efforts of Yongsan-gu volunteers and corporate volunteer organizations. We will continue to listen to even the smallest voices and do our best to create a happy housing environment for all."
Established in 1999, the Yongsan-gu Volunteer Center carries out various volunteer activities tailored to the needs of recipients, such as the ‘Happiness Sharing Volunteer Group’ that helps improve the housing environment in shantytowns, the ‘Magic Balloon Volunteer Group’ that creates balloon art at festivals, and the ‘Love Sharing Volunteer Group’ that provides hand massages and moxibustion therapy.
