Recently, CNN in the United States reported on a video posted by Fran Dias Lupino and her husband, who live in Adelaide, Australia, titled "An Ordinary Day in Australia." After discovering a koala at their home following work, they recorded the encounter and shared the video on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, attracting global attention.

The video shows a koala sitting on a small table next to the bed, then jumping onto the bed. The koala calmly stared at Lupino and her husband Bruno without showing any signs of distress. It then remained seated on the bed for a while.

Lupino explained the situation, saying, "It was just past midnight when we finished work and came home to find a koala in our bedroom." She added, "It was so late that we couldn't reach any animal rescue organizations, and I was anxious and worried about how to get the koala outside."

She continued, "We waved a blanket and sweater to guide the koala outside. There was a bit of a struggle during the process, which was a little scary, but in the end, it walked out the front door willingly." She speculated, "I've sometimes seen koalas sitting in eucalyptus trees around the neighborhood, so I think it probably came in through the pet door installed on our front door."

Netizens who watched the video reacted with comments such as, "Being visited by a koala is a blessing," "The couple might have been scared, but the way the koala just stared quietly is cute," and "Koalas want a soft bed too."

Meanwhile, in 2019, a massive wildfire in Australia killed 60,000 koalas. As a result, the Australian government designated koalas as an endangered species in 2022. Currently, hugging koalas is considered illegal throughout Australia except in Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia. Notably, New South Wales has banned koala hugging since 1997.

However, in South Australia, where koalas' main habitats are located, their population remains large enough that hugging koalas is still permitted. Adelaide, where Lupino lives, is in South Australia and is a place where koalas can be easily seen.
