Academic Conference Held for Chasangchan, a Chuncheon-born Nationalist Journalist under Japanese Rule

On the 15th, the Academic Society's Founding General Meeting... Mayor Yuk: "Continuing Efforts to Promote Teachers' Achievements"

The 'Cha Sang-chan Academic Conference, Inaugural Meeting, and Exhibition,' honoring Cha Sang-chan (1888?1946), a nationalist cultural activist and prominent magazine journalist from Chuncheon, Gangwon Province during the Japanese colonial period, and inheriting his spirit, was held on the 15th at the International Hall of Hallym University.

As the keynote speaker, Professor Kim Tae-woong of Seoul National University presented on "The Direction and Meaning of Cha Sang-chan's in the 1920s Donghak Historical Narratives (東學史話)."

This was followed by thematic presentations including Professor Yoo Jeong-wol (Hongik University) on "The Compilation Consciousness and Historical Awareness of Haedong Yeomsa," Professor Lim Sang-seok (Pusan National University) on "Cha Sang-chan's Writing Diary and Research," and Researcher Jeong Da-yeon (Sungkyunkwan University) on "A Study of Cha Sang-chan's Historical Narration on Byeolgeon-gon Materials."

The discussion on the presentations was led by Professor Yoo Chun-dong (Kangwon National University), Professor Ahn Se-hyun (Kangwon National University), and Professor Kim Seong-su (Korea University).

Mayor Yuk Dong-han of Chuncheon, in his congratulatory speech, stated, "Chuncheon City has been promoting various projects to publicize the great achievements of Cha Sang-chan, including the Cha Sang-chan Bookshelf, Children's Day events in cooperation with the Municipal Library, and the Gangnam-dong Cha Sang-chan Road development project," adding, "The spirit of the teacher continues to inspire us today and will serve as an opportunity to further enhance Chuncheon's historical value."
