Gyeonggi-do Supported Climate Tech Startups 'Metafarmers·FirstLab' Win CES Innovation Awards

‘Metafarmers’ and ‘FirstLab,’ climate tech startups nurtured by Gyeonggi Province, received Innovation Awards at CES 2025, the world’s largest technology exhibition.

The CES Innovation Awards, organized by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) in the United States, recognize products and services that contribute to the industry through technological advancement and design innovation. Each year, companies from around the world compete, and awardees are selected based on strict evaluation criteria. Companies that receive the CES Innovation Award gain international recognition and credibility for their technological capabilities.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 15th that Metafarmers and FirstLab won Innovation Awards at CES 2025 on the 13th (local time).

Metafarmers received high praise in the ‘Food & AgTech’ category for its innovative agricultural automation solutions, while FirstLab was highly evaluated in the ‘Industrial Equipment & Machinery’ category for its water treatment technology using focused ultrasound advanced oxidation technology.

Metafarmers combines artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics technology to develop strawberry and tomato harvesting robots, addressing local labor shortages. In the long term, it contributes to strengthening food security by having moisture robots replace the role of bees amid the climate crisis.

FirstLab possesses technology that uses high-density microbubbles generated by focused ultrasound to decompose non-degradable and human residual pollutants in water. Without using filters or activated carbon, it directly breaks down pollutants, contributing to maintaining clean water quality.

This year, Gyeonggi Province selected 33 climate tech startups and is promoting a nurturing project in collaboration with the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, providing eight acceleration programs?including business model consulting and global expansion support?and commercialization funds.

Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation are leading innovation in the climate tech sector through this achievement and plan to continue supporting more startups to enhance their competitiveness on the global stage.

Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, “This award is an important moment that reflects Gyeonggi Province’s policy efforts for responding to the climate crisis and sustainable development.
