Minjoo Files Complaint Against Joo Jin-woo for "Defamation by Stating False Facts About Lee Jae-myung"

The Democratic Party of Korea filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 14th against Joo Jin-woo, the legal advisory chairman of the People Power Party, for defamation by false facts against Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party.

In a press release on the same day, the Democratic Party stated, "On the previous day, Representative Joo said, 'We deeply regret that Leader Lee Jae-myung ignored the public's right to know and opposed the live broadcast of the first trial for violation of the Public Official Election Act,' but this is clearly not true."

They further explained, "During the court's decision-making process on whether to allow the live broadcast of the trial, Leader Lee and his legal team did not express any opinions, and rather maintained a position of respecting the court's decision in any case."

They continued, "The Democratic Party demanded correction and an apology from Representative Joo for spreading false information," adding, "However, Representative Joo criticized this as a groundless claim and proceeded to make additional false statements, saying, 'If Leader Lee remained silent in a way that condoned it, then opposing the live broadcast means he opposed it; so does that mean he agreed?'"

The Democratic Party emphasized, "This is clearly slander intended to damage Leader Lee's reputation," and urged, "We request the police to promptly and strictly investigate and bring Representative Joo Jin-woo to justice."

In a statement on the same day, Representative Joo said, "When Democratic Party floor leader Park Chan-dae, legal committee chairman Park Gyun-taek, and Supreme Council member Jeon Hyun-hee strongly opposed the live broadcast, where was Leader Lee?" and added, "We will respond legally to this groundless accusation."
