The Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Gu Chung-gon, hereinafter Gwangyang Economic Authority) announced on the 14th that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Eco-friendly Ship Specialized Factory' at Yulchon 1 Industrial Complex in the Gwangyang Bay Area, where Hanwha Ocean Ecotech Co., Ltd. will produce eco-friendly and high value-added ship blocks and equipment.
About 100 key officials from institutions and companies attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including Park Chang-hwan, Vice Governor for Economy of Jeonnam Province, Gu Chung-gon, Commissioner of Gwangyang Economic Authority, Noh Kwan-gyu, Mayor of Suncheon, Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, and Lee Chang-geun, CEO of Hanwha Ocean Ecotech Co., Ltd.

Hanwha Ocean Ecotech Co., Ltd., a subsidiary manufacturing ship components for Hanwha Ocean, signed an agreement in May with Jeonnam Province, Gwangyang Economic Authority, Suncheon City, and Gwangyang City to invest 300 billion KRW by 2026. Through this, more than 530 high-quality jobs are expected to be created.
Hanwha Ocean Ecotech Co., Ltd. operates a specialized production factory focused on manufacturing eco-friendly ships using eco-friendly fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) and ammonia to achieve decarbonization. It has established a one-stop production system capable of everything from raw material procurement to finished product supply, planning to play a key role in the supply chain of ship equipment. Additionally, as a production base for eco-friendly ship equipment related to large shipbuilding and marine structures, it will build Hanwha Ocean’s infrastructure for producing eco-friendly ships and marine plant components, leading the future of the shipbuilding industry.
Gu Chung-gon, Commissioner of Gwangyang Economic Authority, said, “We will actively support the success of Hanwha Ocean Ecotech’s eco-friendly ship business in cooperation with Suncheon City and Gwangyang City.”
