Jinseop Lee, Master Confectioner, Selected as Gangwon-do Master Craftsman

Contributing to Local Economic Development by Developing New Products Using Regional Specialties
On the 14th, Master Certificates and Plaques Awarded... Technical Incentives Also Provided

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) held the '2024 Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Master Craftsman Award Ceremony' on the 14th at the provincial government’s Trade Consultation Office.


The Gangwon Master Craftsman Selection and Support Project is a program that selects and supports outstanding skilled technicians leading technological development in industrial sites within Gangwon Province. Since 2019, up to five masters have been selected annually, with a total of 18 masters chosen so far.

This time, the selected master craftsman, Lee Jin-seop, holds a confectionery technician license and, at the age of 48, has unwaveringly pursued the path of baking and confectionery for 25 years since his twenties.


Master Lee has registered two patents for bread manufacturing methods and natural fermentation starter production methods, and has developed 15 new confectionery and bakery products using domestic agricultural products, earning recognition for his technical skills. He has also contributed to regional economic development by creating products using local specialties.


In addition, Master Lee has been involved in nurturing local talent by holding special lectures on baking and confectionery at universities within the province.

At the award ceremony, Master Lee Jin-seop was presented with a master craftsman certificate, a plaque, and a badge. Furthermore, a technology incentive of 3 million KRW per year (totaling 6 million KRW over two years) will be provided to support industrial development and the training of future professionals in Gangwon Province.


Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, said, “Master craftsmen not only possess exceptional skills but also bring great vitality to the local economy.” He added, “Starting this year, we have increased the support fund by 50% so that the masters can work with greater pride within the province.” Governor Kim also stated, “We will create a Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province where master craftsmen with excellent technical skills are respected.”
