First Introduction of Handwriting Verification Phrase Since 2005 CSAT
Handwriting Verification Phrase Must Be Written by Hand on Answer Sheet for Each Subject
The handwriting verification phrase was introduced starting from the 2006 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) to prevent proxy test-taking. This measure was implemented following the detection of large-scale cheating in the 2005 CSAT. Test-takers must write the handwriting verification phrase by hand on the answer sheet for each subject. On the 14th, Yonhap News reported that the handwriting verification phrase for the 2025 CSAT held this year was "Spread your big dreams in this wide world." This phrase was taken from the poem "Hana ppunin yeppeun ttara" ("My Only Pretty Daughter") by poet Gwak Eui-young.

The handwriting verification phrase is mainly selected as a message of encouragement for the test-takers. It must also include technical elements that can identify the test-taker's own handwriting. The phrase length is between 12 and 19 characters, and it must contain at least two of the consonants 'ㄹ', 'ㅁ', and 'ㅂ', which reveal distinctive handwriting styles since each person writes them differently. The handwriting verification phrase for the 2024 CSAT held last year was "Gajang neolbeun gireun eonjena nae maeumsoge" ("The widest road is always in my heart").
This is a line from the poem "Gajang neolbeun gil" ("The Widest Road") by poet Yang Gwang-mo. The most frequently used phrase so far has been from poet Jeong Ji-yong's poem "Hyangsu" ("Nostalgia"). The 2006 handwriting verification phrase was "Heukeseo jaran nae maeum paranhaneulbit" ("My heart grown from the soil, blue as the sky"), taken from Jeong Ji-yong's poem "Hyangsu," and it was used again in 2017. The first line "Neolbeun beol dongjjok kkeuteuro" ("To the eastern edge of the wide field") was used in 2007. Lines from poet Yun Dong-ju's poems were cited consecutively in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, the phrase "Songeume malgeun gangmuri heureugo" ("Clear river water flows in the palm lines") from the poem "Sonyeon" ("Boy") was used, and in 2009, "I maneun byeolbichi naerin eondeok wie" ("On the hill where many starlights have fallen") from the poem "Byeol heneun bam" ("Counting the Stars at Night") was selected.

I know how hard the test-takers have it. I hope everyone gets good results." Parents of test-takers responded with comments like "I pray that they live pursuing their desired dreams" and "Regardless of the CSAT results, I hope all test-takers live their lives like this."
