14th '2024 Nanum Day' Event
350 Million KRW Raised Over 2 Weeks of Nanum Week
4,000 Employees Participate in Blood Donation

Samsung Electronics employees raised a total of 350 million KRW over two weeks to support children in local communities in need. This was achieved through Samsung's CSR initiative 'Sharing Week,' established to reflect the accompaniment philosophy of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong. Although Samsung initially aimed to donate 200 million KRW, the amount raised exceeded the target by over 100 million KRW. The excess funds will be distributed to other children in need through partner NGOs by the end of the year.

On the 14th, Samsung held the '2024 Sharing Day' event at the Digital Hall of Samsung Electronics’ Suwon Digital City to share these achievements. The event summarized the 'Sharing Week' activities conducted across all affiliates over two weeks starting from the 1st, with the purpose of spreading everyday sharing through volunteering and donations.

During the two-week Sharing Week, Samsung employees participated in ▲ face-to-face volunteering for local communities near each workplace ▲ everyday donations through Sharing Kiosks ▲ and a blood donation campaign to support blood supply. The number of participating employees reached approximately 110,000 across 23 affiliates (domestic basis, excluding duplicates). Notably, this year, Samsung Electronics’ overseas subsidiaries joined for the first time, with employees engaging in volunteering and donations for their local communities.

Hundreds of volunteer teams autonomously formed by Samsung employees participated during Sharing Week. In addition to these volunteer teams, employees also conducted volunteer activities within their respective teams, departments, and other organizational units. They visited welfare facilities and child support centers near their workplaces to volunteer, and carried out environmental improvement activities in parks, rivers, and other areas.

Key executives, including CEOs of Samsung affiliates, also joined employees in volunteer activities. On the 12th, Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics, met with trainees at the Samsung Software Academy For Youth (SSAFY) Seoul Campus, delivering a special lecture on 'Future and Challenge' and mentoring trainees through various questions. On the 13th, Hong Won-hak, CEO of Samsung Life Insurance, paid respects to the patriotic martyrs at the National Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, and participated in graveyard cleaning volunteer work with employees. On the same day, Park Jong-moon, CEO of Samsung Securities, joined employees at the Seocho Central Senior Welfare Center in Seoul to help with lunch distribution and dishwashing volunteer activities.

The 'Sharing Kiosk,' a platform that allows employees to donate 1,000 KRW at a time by tagging their ID cards, was actively utilized. This year, employees from nine Samsung Electronics subsidiaries in five countries?USA, China, India, Thailand, and Vietnam?also participated in donations through the Sharing Kiosk to support children in local communities in need. During Sharing Week, Samsung affiliate employees donated a total of 350 million KRW via the Sharing Kiosk. The donation recipients are children urgently needing help, such as those suffering from rare diseases or disabilities. The beneficiaries were selected in collaboration with partner NGOs Save the Children, Good Neighbors, and Green Umbrella.

Samsung employees also took part in the blood donation campaign. Samsung has conducted annual blood donation campaigns since 1996. During Sharing Week this year, Samsung operated 110 blood donation buses at 42 workplaces nationwide to facilitate employee participation. Over 4,000 employees donated blood during the two weeks. Additionally, Samsung donated four blood donation buses to the Korean Red Cross, and 5,000 blood donation certificates donated by Samsung employees were also handed over to the Korean Red Cross.

Meanwhile, about 100 people attended the Sharing Day event, including Samsung employees, families of children who received donations through the Sharing Kiosk, Kwon So-young, Director of the Blood Management Headquarters at the Korean Red Cross, Song Hye-seung, Head of Domestic Operations at Save the Children, Park Jung-soon, Head of Child Rights Business at Good Neighbors, Lee Soo-kyung, Vice Chairman of Green Umbrella, and Park Seung-hee, President of Samsung Electronics’ Corporate Responsibility division.
