The Daegu Regional Employment and Labor Office (Commissioner Yoon Soo-kyung) will conduct a three-week field survey starting on the 15th to analyze the actual impact of the minimum wage on business management and employment, and to identify difficulties related to its application.
This survey targets low-wage workers and their affiliated businesses nationwide to understand business conditions, the impact of minimum wage increases, factors influencing minimum wage decisions, and the appropriateness of the minimum wage level.
The survey subjects are business owners and low-wage workers selected from 10 industries with many low-wage employees, including manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, lodging, and food service, at workplaces with fewer than 300 regular employees. The survey will be conducted on 282 companies within the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area.
Meanwhile, next year's minimum wage is set at 10,030 KRW per hour, which translates to 2,096,270 KRW per month (based on a 40-hour workweek).
The Daegu Regional Employment and Labor Office will continue to promote the minimum wage by distributing informational leaflets and will strengthen supervision to prevent wage arrears by issuing corrective orders to workplaces that fail to pay the minimum wage and immediately taking legal action if these orders are not followed.
Commissioner Yoon Soo-kyung of the Daegu Regional Employment and Labor Office stated, “As the results of this survey will serve as basic data for analyzing the effectiveness of the minimum wage system and for establishing next year’s minimum wage policy, we ask for active participation from both businesses and workers.” She added, “We will make every effort to prevent wage arrears for low-wage workers through strict law enforcement against workplaces violating the minimum wage.”
