Jinju City Wins Grand Prize in Residential Environment Improvement at the 'Urban and Regional Innovation Industry Expo'

Highly Rated for Residential Environment Improvement

Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced that it won the Grand Prize (Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award) in the housing environment improvement category at the ‘2024 Korea Urban and Regional Innovation Industry Expo’ held at Daegu EXCO on the 13th.


The Korea Urban and Regional Innovation Industry Expo has been held annually since 2019 to promote government urban innovation policies and excellent urban innovation cases domestically and internationally, as well as to support the growth and expertise of companies in related fields. This year, under the theme “Vitality to Cities, Jobs to Regions,” the expo is being held from the 13th to the 15th at the EXCO Convention Center in Buk-gu, Daegu.

More than 170 organizations, including Jinju City, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, local governments nationwide, public institutions, and private companies, are participating in this expo to share the achievements and best practices of their urban regeneration projects.


The city participated in the Urban and Regional Innovation Grand Prize, one of the main programs, and presented an excellent case study under the theme of the Gangnam District Urban Regeneration Project “Newtro Gangnam, Enjoy Water and Light~!” which was selected in 2020 through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s urban regeneration project contest and is currently underway. The project received high evaluations and was honored with the grand prize at the opening ceremony.


The Gangnam District Urban Regeneration Project, classified as a general neighborhood type, aims to improve alleyway commercial areas by creating a craft and folk art street and renovating old shop signs, improve residential areas through a youth stay center (youth rental housing) and exterior home repairs, and establish living SOC infrastructure for the convenience of local residents. The project is being promoted with the goal of sustainable urban regeneration centered on residents by improving the village living environment.


A city official stated, “This award is the result of active communication between residents and the administration,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to overcome regional decline and create a vibrant Jinju where people want to stay by promoting resident-centered sustainable urban regeneration projects.”


Jinju City is operating a promotional booth at the expo, displaying materials related to the status of Jinju’s urban regeneration projects and tourism, and conducting various programs for visitors.
