Busan Office of Education Holds 'Special School Open Concert' to Improve Disability Awareness

Colorful Performances by 7 Teams Including Busan Guhwa School

Improving Disability Awareness and Enhancing Cultural and Artistic Literacy Effects

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yun-su) will hold the '2024 Special School Open Concert' on the 15th at 1:30 PM at the Busan Student Arts and Culture Center, targeting about 500 participants including students, parents, and teachers from special schools.

This concert aims to improve awareness of disabilities through harmony between students with and without disabilities using music as a medium, and to help students realize their artistic potential and cultivate cultural and artistic literacy.

Under the subtitle "Seven-colored Harmony Drawn on Staff Paper," the concert will feature performances by 7 teams totaling about 90 participants.

Students from six schools will present diverse performances: Busan Guhwa School (handbell performance), Busan Dongam School (piano solo), Busan School for the Blind (piano solo and saxophone ensemble), Tohyeon Elementary School (kalimba performance), Busan Baehwa School (band performance), and Busan Hyewon School (choral performance).

Additionally, a performance by the ONN Green Phil Orchestra, composed of students with developmental disabilities from ONN Broadcasting Station (On General Hospital), is also prepared.

The Busan Office of Education plans to live stream the concert on its YouTube channel for students who cannot visit the venue in person.

Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "This concert will greatly help foster warm character and active social participation skills among students with disabilities through cultural and artistic experiences and presentations. The Office of Education will continue to operate cultural and artistic education more substantively to nurture talents with artistic sensitivity and harmonious character."
