'2025 Gumi Park Chung-hee Marathon' Held, Featuring Half, 10km, and 5km Courses
Gumi National Industrial Complex, Korea's Industrial Hub, and Scenic Nakdong River Premium Course
Gumi City will host the nationwide marathon event, the ‘2025 Gumi Park Chung-hee Marathon,’ on March 2 next year.
This event follows the Gumi Citizens Marathon held last October, which was successfully completed with over 6,000 participants, and is expected to bring runners from all over the country together in one place.
The race consists of half marathon, 10 km, and 5 km courses, starting from the Gumi National Industrial Complex, the industrial hub of South Korea. The route passes Gumi Bridge, Dongnak Park, Namgumi Bridge, and Nakdong River Riverside Road, leading up to the Export Tower, which was erected to commemorate the achievement of 10 billion dollars in exports in 1976. Participants will enjoy a special experience running through a blend of urban and natural scenery while encountering Gumi’s representative industrial and cultural landmarks.
Registration began on November 14, coinciding with the 107th birthday of former President Park Chung-hee, when the website opened, and will recruit up to 10,000 participants.
The city hopes to successfully host the ‘2025 Gumi Asia Athletics Championships’ in May next year through this marathon event, strengthen its brand as a nationwide sports city, and create a festive atmosphere.
Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, “This Park Chung-hee Marathon will be developed into a premier marathon festival in South Korea through a distinguished course set against the backdrop of the Gumi National Industrial Complex,” adding, “We hope many marathon enthusiasts from across the country will participate along with the Asia Athletics Championships next year.”
