Professional basketball player Heo Ung, who was accused of sexual assault by his ex-girlfriend, has been cleared of charges and resumed his social media (SNS) activities. On the 13th, Heo Ung posted photos taken during a game and a video showing gifts from fans on his personal channel. He had temporarily suspended his SNS activities since June 24. Fans welcomed Heo Ung’s return after about five months with comments such as "Looking forward to active SNS activities," "You must have had a hard time these five months," and "Keep up this momentum and win the MVP." However, some netizens expressed discomfort, saying it is still too soon for him to be active on SNS.

Earlier, at the end of June, Heo Ung filed a complaint against his ex-girlfriend A, accusing her of attempted extortion and threats, claiming she demanded hundreds of millions of won by exploiting private matters. However, controversy arose when A counter-sued Heo Ung for quasi-rape and injury. A claimed that in May 2021, during a dispute with Heo Ung at a hotel in Seoul, her dental laminate was damaged, and that he forced sexual intercourse in the hotel room, resulting in pregnancy. On the other hand, Heo Ung’s side stated that although they broke up at the end of 2021, conflicts arose after A became pregnant, and she threatened him by exploiting private matters.
The police applied charges of extortion and attempted extortion against A and forwarded the case to the prosecution. Heo Ung’s side later filed another complaint against A for false accusation. However, the police announced that they decided not to indict A on the quasi-rape and injury charges against Heo Ung, citing insufficient evidence. Subsequently, Heo Ung returned to the professional basketball court for the new season. On the 19th of last month, after a game, Heo Ung apologized, saying, "I am sorry for disappointing the fans due to my mistakes during this off-season," and added, "I will live by managing myself more strictly from now on." It remains to be seen whether Heo Ung, who resumed SNS activities after being cleared of sexual assault charges, can recover public opinion, and his future actions are being closely watched. Meanwhile, on the 30th of last month, Heo Ung’s side filed a complaint against A’s lawyer for instigating false accusations.
