Subway Construction Project Gains Momentum, Expected to Alleviate Citizen Inconvenience
In the National Assembly's review of next year's budget, the budget for the Gwangju subway project was significantly increased, providing new momentum for the long-stalled urban railway construction project.
On the 13th, Jeong Jun-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Gwangju Buk-gu Gap, announced, "As a result of the National Assembly's review of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's budget, 52.2 billion KRW was added for the construction of Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2 and the establishment of the LTE-R (Railway Integrated Wireless Network) for Line 1."
In a recent comprehensive inquiry during the national audit, Representative Jeong pointed out that the second phase of sections 7 and 10 of Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2 had failed five times in bidding, raising citizens' concerns over project delays, and emphasized the need for additional budget.
This budget increase includes 50 billion KRW to continue the construction of Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2 and 2.2 billion KRW for the establishment of the LTE-R for Gwangju Urban Railway Line 1.
Representative Jeong stated, "I hope this budget increase brings some comfort to the citizens of Gwangju who have been enduring the inconveniences caused by the construction of the Gwangju Urban Railway," and emphasized, "The National Assembly, government, and Gwangju City will work closely together to ensure that the Gwangju subway project is completed safely and promptly."
