"Jangjang Hyanggyo Also Took Action" United Voices for KTX-Eum Stop Station Attraction

Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) announced on the 13th that a ‘KTX-Eum Gijang Station Stop Attraction Performance’ was held, organized by Gijang Hyanggyo.

This attraction performance was conducted alongside a cultural heritage exploration event by Gijang Hyanggyo. About 60 local elders participated, raising a united voice hoping for the KTX-Eum stop station to be located in Gijang-gun.

A resident who participated in the performance said, “As a local resident living in Gijang-gun, it is very inconvenient to use the KTX,” and added, “I hope the KTX-Eum will stop in Gijang-gun soon so that I can comfortably travel to Seoul.”

A Gijang-gun official stated, “We will do our best in the attraction activities until the very last moment when the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport decides on the KTX-Eum stop station in Gijang-gun.”

Gijang-gun completed a feasibility study for attracting the KTX-Eum stop station in 2022 and began the attraction campaign early compared to competing local governments by directly delivering a petition signed by 141,000 citizens to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2023.

Since March, a relay of support messages from citizens across the county and attraction performances involving residents from various sectors in the region have been ongoing, with the entire population participating in the stop station attraction activities.

The county plans to hold a ‘KTX-Eum Stop Station Attraction Festival’ with residents at Gijang Station on the 15th, aiming to raise the attraction atmosphere to its peak until the final decision on the KTX-Eum stop station is made.
