'1st generation idol' Chae Eun-jung shared updates on the reformation of the group Cleo.
On the 11th, a video titled "Chae Eun-jung running a night market event soaking wet from the rain. Cleo reformed as a trio with a 168cm model figure" was uploaded on the YouTube channel 'Geunhwang Olympics.' The video featured original Cleo member Chae Eun-jung along with new members Gu Do-kyung and Dini, discussing their recent activities.
That day, Cleo revealed that they have been mainly performing street busking. The host asked, "You must have prepared under much tougher conditions compared to your most glorious days," to which Chae Eun-jung replied, "The former managers have contacted me a lot. It’s touching," sharing the current difficulties. She continued, "I imagined busking like famous singers do. But it was much tougher than I thought. We have to gather people," honestly expressing her feelings.
New member Dini caught attention by sharing an anecdote about a night market event. He said, "Even at the night market event, people looked at us with pity," adding, "Once, it rained heavily and we got soaked like in a water bomb fight. But unlike a water bomb event, people pitied us for getting wet in the rain."
Chae Eun-jung also expressed frustration about their costumes. She said, "Costumes were definitely the hardest part. Each outfit rarely cost more than 10,000 won. The three of us spent less than 100,000 won in total. I even sewed and added rhinestones myself," sharing, "I wondered, 'What am I doing?' It felt a bit like being a laborer," evoking sympathy. In response, Gu Do-kyung joked, "Our person is luxury, isn’t she?"
However, Chae Eun-jung said, "Because of these two, we are able to perform as Cleo. It’s much better than the Cleo I was part of with my older sister back in the day. Over the past year, I think I’ve seen them about 300 days out of 365," showing deep affection for her members. She added, "There seems to be a strong camaraderie. I’m known as the 'icon of hard work.' I feel sorry for dragging the others into it, but as we share the hardships together, the camaraderie builds. If even one of us can’t do it, I don’t think Cleo can continue."
Meanwhile, the 1st generation girl group Cleo recruited new members last November and resumed activities. Original member Chae Eun-jung was joined by new members Dini and Gu Do-kyung, reforming as a trio girl group. After leaving Cleo in 2005, Chae Eun-jung had a long hiatus but shared updates through appearances on MBC's 'King of Mask Singer' and TV Chosun's 'Tomorrow's Miss Trot 2' in 2020. Chae Eun-jung previously revealed that she almost trained and debuted as a member of the group Fin.K.L, but ultimately Lee Hyori was selected and she debuted with Cleo instead, which became a hot topic.
