Lee Geon-woo, President of Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), was selected as the 'Korea Mechanical Engineer of the Year' at the '2024 Machine Day' event held on the 13th.
The Machine Day event annually honors individuals who have contributed to the development of the mechanical industry in Korea by selecting one person each from the industry, academia, research, and master machinist sectors to receive the 'Korea Mechanical Engineer of the Year' award. President Lee received this year's award representing academia.
President Lee has continuously contributed to nurturing talent in the mechanical industry and engineering fields. He served as a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dean of the College of Engineering, and the inaugural Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering at Seoul National University. He has also held positions as President of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers, Vice President of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea, and President of the Korean Society for Engineering Education. He is a member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
President Lee expressed his thoughts, saying, "I will do my best to nurture outstanding science and technology talents so that our country can establish itself as a global leader in the mechanical industry and future core industries."
