About 400 Companies, 600 Content Exhibits
Participation of Domestic and International AI and Design Experts
A future design trend event utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be held, providing an opportunity to meet outstanding designers and products that have shone this year.
'Design Korea 2024,' the largest domestic design industry expo hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, will take place for five days from the 13th to the 17th at COEX Hall D in Seoul.
This year's event, themed "How AI Moves Our Daily Lives," will showcase over 600 contents from more than 400 companies.
Yoon Sang-heum, president of the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, said about the event, "It presents the future vision of the design industry in line with AI development and introduces designs and designers creating new value through the convergence of new technologies."
A particularly anticipated work is "AI for Sustainability," created by the UK's 'Dada Project' in collaboration with Google DeepMind. This piece visually expresses the role of AI in disaster prediction to prepare for increasingly severe natural disasters caused by climate change.
In addition to the exhibition, the event includes various side events such as an international conference, business matching, a job fair, and the Korea Design Awards ceremony.
At the conference held on the 14th, AI and design experts from Google, Adobe, University of London, KAIST, and other domestic and international institutions will participate to explore the future of AI and the design industry.
At the Korea Design Awards ceremony, Kim Hyun-sun, CEO of Design Research Institute, received the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, while Professor Kim Kwan-myung of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology and Kim Jong-wook, Managing Director of KBS Art Vision, received the Industrial Service Medal, with a total of 33 individuals honored.
President Yoon stated, "The design industry, a creative field traditionally considered a uniquely human domain, has also entered an era where it cannot escape the influence of AI," adding, "We will strive to ensure that Korean design responds well to the rapid changes brought by AI and achieves a new leap forward."
Meanwhile, this year's Design Korea used the 'Korea Design Festival (KDF)' brand, created jointly by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Seoul City, and Design House. It is held simultaneously with the Seoul Design Festival (hosted by Design House), which uses the same brand.
