Art Museum 'The Gallery Hosu' to Open at Seokchon Lake in November... An Open Cultural and Artistic Space
18 Residents Selected as Docents Ahead of Opening
Cultural and Artistic Experience Opportunities in Residents' Daily Lives, Residents Take on 'Docent' Roles Draw Attention
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) is completing ‘The Gallery Hosu,’ newly opening in November, as an open cultural and artistic space created together with residents.
The district plans to provide a space where residents can experience and communicate culture and arts in their daily lives through ‘The Gallery Hosu.’ It is expected to offer various cultural and artistic experiences to residents visiting Seokchon Lake and provide much-needed exhibition space for artists active in the district.
In particular, the docents (exhibition guides) of The Gallery Hosu will be residents.
The district recruited ‘resident docents’ from Songpa-gu residents who are either art majors or have a strong interest in art, selecting 18 individuals. They are composed of a diverse age range from 20 to 64 years old to serve as a bridge connecting exhibitions and visitors through their own storytelling.
The selected residents include those with rich experience such as art majors, former gallery representatives, current designers, docents with a background in history education, exhibition planners, and curators.
The 18 finally selected ‘resident docents’ will play a role in delivering art to residents in an easy and enjoyable way. Their main task will be explaining artworks, and they will be active for one year while also receiving education related to art history, visits to other cultural facilities, and exhibition interpretation.
The district expects that the ‘resident docents’ will facilitate communication between art and residents and contribute to expanding the sharing of art culture in Songpa-gu.
‘The Gallery Hosu,’ soon to open, is the district’s first standalone art museum building. Located on a 1,400㎡ site by the east shore of Seokchon Lake, it is a single-story facility with two exhibition halls?one underground and one above ground?connected internally to the lakeside walking path so that anyone can visit without hesitation. Additionally, a rooftop observatory will be created where visitors can enjoy a quieter view of the lake scenery compared to the surroundings.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “Through the operation of ‘resident docents’ at The Gallery Hosu, we will actively support making the museum a place where residents can understand exhibitions more deeply and receive high-quality viewing services. Furthermore, we will build a Songpa where culture and arts flow so that all Songpa residents can enjoy culture anytime and live a rich life.”
