Naver Knowledge iN Predicts Growth as an "Open Knowledge Community" with "Snack-type Content Offering"

Naver is transforming its knowledge iN service, which celebrates its 22nd anniversary this year, from a Q&A-focused platform into an open community centered on curiosity and interests.

On the 12th, at the Team Naver 'DAN24' conference, Naver announced the changes and development directions for the knowledge iN service. To date, knowledge iN has recorded a cumulative total of 350 million questions and 600 million answers. On this day, Naver's Content Service Design Team stated that knowledge iN will grow based on four keywords: 'young and trendy,' 'short content,' 'easy to find,' and 'quick to view.'

In the first half of next year, the area below a question will be redesigned into a feed format so that users who enter through one question can continuously explore other similar questions. By browsing multiple questions and answers, users will be able to access personalized recommendations of related questions and answers, as well as new content that might interest them.

Additionally, next year, knowledge iN will introduce a new service called 'New it.' New it refers to an open community centered on issue keywords. Anyone can participate, share, and produce and consume trends and content based on common interests and curiosities. While maintaining the essence of knowledge iN as a service that communicates around interests and curiosity, it plans to strengthen popular keywords, insights, and challenges to cater to the preferences of users in their teens and twenties who favor light and fast snack-type content.

In particular, by utilizing generative artificial intelligence (AI), it plans to activate communication by generating questions and keywords that users can participate in.

Naver emphasized, "New it is an experimental lab where users verify the new possibilities and value of knowledge iN," adding, "We will maintain the usability that was well utilized in the existing knowledge iN while applying changes step by step."

Earlier in April, knowledge iN ended the question closing feature and removed limits on additional questions and answers, allowing conversations to continue freely. The reaction system was changed from facial emoticons to UP·DOWN functions to express responses to answers. After the revision, the number of answers per question increased by about 30%, and feedback increased more than threefold compared to the previous emoticons.

Jang Hyehwa, leader of Naver's Content Service Design, stated, "We want to move away from the approach where people only visit knowledge iN when they have questions," emphasizing, "We will strive to become an open community that grows with new generations by providing snack-type content so that communication on knowledge iN can be more convenient and enjoyable."
