Gwangju Transportation Corporation recently held the '2024 Energy Saving Promotion Committee' at its headquarters in Maruk-dong, Seo-gu, and announced on the 12th that it reviewed the current status of electricity consumption reduction and discussed measures to practice low-carbon green management.

On this day, the committee analyzed the effects of major projects carried out this year according to the 'Comprehensive Plan for Eco-friendly Energy Management,' including ▲installation of windproof doors in all station waiting rooms ▲participation in local energy-saving projects ▲utilization of regenerative power energy, and discussed improvements and development directions.

In preparation for the upcoming winter season, they also agreed to maintain appropriate heating temperatures in stations and electric trains and to continuously monitor peak electricity demand for effective electricity consumption management.

The corporation plans to actively engage in carbon reduction practices and climate crisis response through the installation and operation of solar power generation facilities, energy-saving campaigns targeting local residents, and the introduction of integrated cooling system management solutions.

Jo Ik-moon, president of Gwangju Transportation Corporation, stated, “Considering the public interest and special characteristics of the railway industry, I hope the electricity tariff system will be improved as soon as possible,” and added, “We will continue to do our best in energy management to contribute to realizing a green Gwangju through carbon neutrality.”

Meanwhile, due to about a 40% increase in electricity rates over the past three years, urban railway operators nationwide are facing financial difficulties. Gwangju Transportation Corporation is also experiencing increased management burdens as electricity consumption rose by 7% compared to 2021, while electricity costs increased by approximately 57%.
