On the 12th, the Haman County in Gyeongnam hosted a Giro-yeon event at the Haman Culture and Arts Center banquet hall, inviting local Confucian scholars and elders aged 70 and above. The event was organized by Haman Hyanggyo and Chilwon Hyanggyo.
Giro-yeon was a banquet provided by the state during the Joseon Dynasty for elderly civil officials registered at the Giroso. Only civil officials aged 70 or older who had held the rank of Jeong 2-pum or higher could participate in this state-sponsored senior citizens' banquet.
Every year, Haman Hyanggyo and Chilwon Hyanggyo continue the Giro-yeon event to inherit our beautiful traditional ethics and customs based on filial piety, aiming to further develop traditional Confucian culture.
Attending the Giro-yeon, County Governor Jo Geun-je said, “I hope this meaningful event will help us reflect on the traditional Korean values of respect for elders and filial piety passed down through generations,” and added, “I will always strive to support the development of the Hyanggyo.”
Meanwhile, the Chilwon Hyanggyo Giro-yeon event is scheduled to be held from the 19th to the 22nd at representative senior centers in the Samchil area.
