Regional Innovation Institutions and Industry-Academia-Research Stakeholders to Attend

Discussion on Marine Bioactivation and Open Innovation Strategies

The Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, Director Kim Young-bu) will hold the 4th Future Technology Innovation Forum on the theme of ‘Busan Advanced Marine Bio Open Innovation Strategy’ at 3 p.m. on the 15th at Citadines Connect Hotel Hari Busan.

Hosted by Busan City and organized by BISTEP, this forum is designed to promote the development of regionally specialized advanced bio-industries and bring together about 40 stakeholders from regional innovation institutions and industry-academia-research sectors to discuss the latest policy trends and technology strategies in marine fisheries bio and AI drug development.


The forum’s keynote presentation will be given by Lee Sung-mi, Director of the Marine Fisheries Science and Technology Promotion Agency, focusing on ‘Trends and Strategic Opportunities in Marine Fisheries Bio Technology,’ presenting strategic opportunities that Busan can secure in the marine bio-industry sector.


Following this, Jeong-hyun Lee, Principal Researcher at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, will introduce the ‘AI Drug Development Platform Promotion Strategy,’ sharing the strategy and necessity of new drug development based on the Busan marine cluster.


In the panel discussion that follows, chaired by Professor An Soon-chul of Pusan National University, participants will include Tae-heung Kang, Head of Prestige Biopharma IDC; Professor Ki-ho Kwak of Hanbat National University; Team Leader Jung-ae Kim of the Korea Marine and Fisheries Science and Technology Promotion Agency; Professor Sang-hyuk Park of Pukyong National University; and Research Fellow Ki-won Han of the Korea Maritime Institute, who will discuss various ideas and solutions for the development of Busan’s marine bio-industry.


The expert opinions presented in this discussion are expected to serve as important foundational data for establishing new R&D plans in Busan’s bio-industry and to help concretize the direction of regional research and development.


Director Kim Young-bu of BISTEP stated, “Busan has great potential to lead growth in the bio-health field, including differentiated technological innovation and new drug development, based on its specialized resources in the marine bio-industry. Through this forum, we hope to concretize innovation strategies for Busan’s marine bio-industry together with experts from various fields and lay the foundation for Busan to become a global hub for the bio-industry.”
