Gyeryong City Secures 172 Billion Won in National and Provincial Funds for First Half of Year... Largest Amount Since Establishment

It has been revealed that Gyeryong City in Chungnam secured 172 billion KRW in national and provincial funding in the first half of this year, marking the largest amount since the city’s establishment. Additionally, the city secured 94 billion KRW in project competition funds, a 5.8-fold increase compared to the previous year.

The city announced these achievements at the “2024 Major Business Performance and 2025 Business Plan Report Meeting” held on the 11th.

The main achievements in the first half include: △ Selection as “Best (SA)” in the nationwide basic local government heads’ pledge implementation and information disclosure evaluation △ Securing 172 billion KRW in national and provincial funding, the largest since the city’s establishment, and 94 billion KRW in project competition funds, a 5.8-fold increase from the previous year △ Hosting of the Korea International Defense Industry Exhibition (KADEX 2024) △ Promotion of the “Intelligent Center Technology Support Project” to establish a defense industry base △ Selection for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ national funding (16 billion KRW) for the construction of a knowledge industry center △ Selection as an excellent region in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s national regional safety index △ First in the province to be selected as a model city for clean air △ Gyeryong Military Culture Festival winning the Grand Prize at the Korea Festival Content Awards △ Designation of Hyangjeoksan Ecological Forest △ Securing national funding for the modernization of the local water supply system.

The city plans to focus its administrative efforts on establishing the foundation for key strategic industries led by the region, such as constructing a knowledge industry center and creating a specialized industrial complex for advanced defense technologies, to become a central hub for the defense R&D economic base and power support system logistics industry.

Additionally, to further establish itself as a key location for transportation and national defense security, the city will promote projects such as connecting Gyeryong-daero to National Route 1, establishing a transfer center at Gyeryong Station, and reviving the closed Sindo Station.

Other plans include building a national sports center for the disabled (Bandabi) and a national sports center, constructing a four-season cultural experience center, doubling the Gyeryong City water transmission pipeline and replacing and maintaining water supply and distribution pipelines, as well as creating the Hyangjeoksan Forest Recreation Town (nature recreation forest, ecological forest, barrier-free sharing trail) and a playground for companion animals.

Mayor Lee Eungwoo stated, “The achievements in 2024 were possible because all our city officials diligently fulfilled their respective duties. Now that the eighth popularly elected term has passed its halfway point, we will focus our capabilities on swiftly implementing projects so that citizens can directly experience the benefits of administration.”
