Gongju City, Chungnam Province, announced on the 12th that it has been selected for the "2025 New and Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project" hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, securing 1 billion KRW in national and provincial funding.

This project is an eco-friendly initiative that installs solar and geothermal energy systems in homes or buildings to reduce fuel costs and decrease carbon emissions.

Starting next year, the city plans to invest a total of 2.79 billion KRW to supply renewable energy through 252 solar power installations (810kW) and 38 geothermal systems (665kW).

The city expects this project to have the effect of replacing 398 tons of oil equivalent (toe) of fossil fuels, reducing 330 tons of carbon (TC), and planting the equivalent of 59,056 trees.

A city official stated, "We expect this project to help reduce citizens' electricity bills and improve energy welfare," adding, "We will continue to expand renewable energy supply projects in line with government policies."
