Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 12th that it sent refund notices on the 8th regarding unclaimed property tax refunds to return the money to taxpayers who have not yet collected it.
As of the 8th, Paju City's unclaimed property tax refunds amount to about 370 cases totaling 22 million KRW.
The causes of property tax refunds include omissions in special housing data changes and ownership transfers. Most of the unclaimed refund cases involve small amounts under 50,000 KRW, making taxpayers reluctant to apply for refunds.
Accordingly, Paju City sent refund notices and plans to send refund guidance text messages next month.
Refund applications can be made through the automated response service, Wetax, phone, or the mobile app (Smart Wetax). If there are outstanding taxes, the overdue amount will be deducted first, and the remaining balance will be refunded.
Choi Yoon-soon, head of the Taxation Division, said, “We will do our best to pay property tax refunds to enhance trust in tax administration and to provide some support to taxpayers struggling due to the economic downturn.”
