Purin Team Creates 'Rest and Space Garden'
Leaping Forward as Future Garden Artists
Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 12th that the ‘Rest, Space Garden’ created in the Sinan and Pyeonggeo green areas won the Excellence Award at the final performance report and awards ceremony of the ‘2024 Garden Dream Project’ held at the National Sejong Arboretum.
Organized by the Korea Arboretum Garden Management Institute, the ‘2024 Garden Dream Project’ is a program designed to create youth jobs by providing students aspiring to enter the gardening field with opportunities to participate in garden creation, and to lay the foundation for them to grow into future garden experts through practical garden creation.
This project involved 25 teams composed of students from gardening-related departments nationwide, who planned, designed, and constructed gardens over six months under the theme of ‘Healing Garden.’ In Jinju, four teams showcased unique gardens in the Sinan and Pyeonggeo green areas, reflecting their original designs and team members’ passion, presenting distinctive urban gardens.
Among the four teams from Jinju, the Purin team, which received the Excellence Award for the ‘Rest, Space Garden,’ planned the garden under the theme of ‘Space,’ aiming to blend nature into the rapidly changing urban environment so that visitors could find peace of mind. Although the other teams?▲ Eosing team’s ‘Footstep Garden,’ ▲ Pullex team’s ‘Yunsul Garden,’ and ▲ Holsome team’s ‘Story of Sound Garden’?did not win awards, they demonstrated very high completeness and will be provided to local residents as garden cultural spaces along with the award-winning works.
A city official stated, “We have elevated the status of Jinju as a garden culture city by hosting the ‘2025 Korea Garden Industry Expo’ next June under the theme ‘Life with Gardens.’ Based on the experience and know-how gained through this project, we will continue to expand garden spaces in the city so that citizens can enjoy rest and healing in their daily lives.”
Meanwhile, Jinju City played an important role in revitalizing garden culture by breathing life into urban spaces through participation in this project, contributing to students’ growth and improving citizens’ quality of life, and strengthening the image of Jinju as a garden culture city.
Additionally, by operating ‘Citizen Gardener Training Education’ to promote garden culture, the city is nurturing citizen gardeners and encouraging their participation from garden creation to management, playing a pivotal role in spreading garden culture and revitalizing urban gardens.
