The 2024 UNICA KOREA International Film Festival will be held from the 16th to the 17th at CGV Gyeongsan (Theater 3).
UNICA is an international film organization under the UNESCO International Cinema and Television Committee (UNESCO C.I.C.T.), established in 1931. It has over 40 member countries, mainly from Europe’s advanced film nations, with South Korea being the only member country in Asia. Since 2014, UNICA Korea has been hosting the international film festival annually with the approval of the UNICA World Federation, striving to discover and promote beautiful films that can inspire and teach people.
At this festival, out of a total of 626 works submitted from 50 countries affiliated with the UNICA World Federation, 35 works from 21 countries that advanced to the finals will be screened free of charge during the festival period. After the screenings, an awards ceremony will be held, presenting the Grand Prize (UNICA Award), Gold Prize, Silver Prize, Bronze Prize, Jury Special Prize, Audience Award, and more.
Dalshipaket, who became internationally famous for translating the Academy Award-winning film Parasite, will serve as the jury president. The jury also includes Nelson Shin, a world-renowned animation master who created the lightsaber for Star Wars, is called the father of Transformers, and served as president of ASIFA (International Animated Film Association); PD Kim Han-young, who directed the MBC drama Country Diary; Moon Seok, programmer of the Jeonju International Film Festival; and cinematographer Choi Chan-min, who filmed The Spy Gone North and The Merciless and won the Blue Dragon Film Award for cinematography. They will judge the finalist entries.
Yu Young-ui, the organizing committee chairman of UNICA Korea, which hosts this film festival, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “The UNICA KOREA International Film Festival is an international competitive film festival that integrates competition without distinction of domestic or international, age, or genre. In accordance with the spirit of UNICA, it is a festival that aims to benefit people’s lives and further contribute to individual happiness and inner growth, as well as the advancement and peace of humanity.”
