5-Time Champion and 4-Time Runner-Up: "The Strongest Lineup"
The Dong-Eui University Professors' Soccer Club (President Lee Jin-kyung) won first place in the Cheongryong Division at the "18th National Professors' Soccer Tournament," held from the 1st to the 3rd at Geochang Sports Park in Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam.
In this tournament hosted by the Korea Professors' Soccer Federation, Dong-Eui University drew 0-0 against the National Pukyong University in the preliminary round, defeated Masan University 7-0, and advanced to the upper final league, the Cheongryong Division.
In the final league (Cheongryong Division), held in an 8-team knockout format, Dong-Eui University consecutively defeated the Dongshin University combined team (1-1, won on penalty shootout) and Inha University A (1-0 win) to reach the final. In the final match, after a fierce battle against a combined team led by Inha University, they won 3-2 and lifted the championship trophy for the fifth time in total.
The National Professors' Soccer Tournament has been held annually since the first event in 2004. This year, a total of 14 teams participated, including 9 university teams and 5 combined university teams from 22 universities, with 239 professors competing. Dong-Eui University has recorded five championships and four runner-up finishes in total.
Lee Jin-kyung, president of the Dong-Eui University Professors' Soccer Club, stated, "Although the team’s strength had somewhat weakened in recent years due to the aging of existing members, the addition of highly skilled new professors created a harmony between the old and new, leading to a long-awaited victory. As a traditional powerhouse, we will continue to dominate as the nation’s top team next year."
