Yeongju City, First Purchase of This Year's Public Stockpiling Rice 'Market-Isolated Dry Paddy'

Mayor Park Nam-seo Visits Site to Encourage Farmers

Yeongju City will begin purchasing dried rice starting from the 12th to the 30th, beginning in Anjeong-myeon and Munsu-myeon, following the purchase of newly harvested rice for the 2024 public stockpiling program conducted last month.

On the 12th, Mayor Park Nam-seo of Yeongju visited the first purchase site to encourage farmers and related personnel.

According to the city, the planned purchase volume for this year’s public stockpiling rice and market isolation grains is 89,867 bags based on 40kg sacks, consisting of 22,277 bags of newly harvested rice and 67,590 bags of dried rice.

The purchased varieties are Ilpum and Samgwang. If more than 20% of other varieties are mixed in, the rice will be excluded from the public stockpiling purchase program for the next five years, so farmers need to pay special attention to verifying the varieties.

The purchase price for public stockpiling rice is determined by converting the nationwide average farm-gate rice price during the harvest season (October to December), as surveyed by Statistics Korea, into rough rice prices per 40kg sack. To ease farmers’ financial burdens, an interim payment of 40,000 KRW is made immediately upon purchase, and the final settlement payment is made at the end of December when the purchase price is finalized.

Mayor Park Nam-seo of Yeongju said, “I sincerely thank the farmers for their dedicated efforts under difficult conditions to produce high-quality rice,” and added, “We will do our best to create stable rice production conditions and support the production of excellent quality rice.”
