The event was attended by Kim Kyung-hee, Mayor of Icheon, Park Yong-geun, Vice President of SK Hynix (in charge of Icheon CPR), the Waterway Volunteer Corps composed of 40 SK Hynix volunteers, and about 180 people including civic groups and citizens within Icheon City.
Bokha Stream, which flows around the SK Hynix Icheon Campus, is a first-class tributary that crosses Icheon, Yongin, and Yeoju in Gyeonggi Province and merges with the Namhan River. It is described as a tributary that plays a significant role in the development of the domestic semiconductor industry.
Icheon City and SK Hynix conducted cleanup activities such as removing trash around and in the stream to preserve and improve the water quality of Bokha Stream, which is used as a water source for Icheon citizens.
After the opening ceremony, the volunteer group participated in an EM mud ball throwing activity. The mud balls are made by mixing various beneficial microorganisms such as yeast, nuruk bacteria, photosynthetic bacteria, actinomycetes, and loess, which are effective in water purification, odor removal, and decay suppression.
Afterwards, the volunteers joined local civic groups in trash removal activities.
Mayor Kim emphasized, "Bokha Stream is a precious treasure that must be protected for the production of Icheon’s specialty rice and semiconductors."
Vice President Park said, "Protecting water resources, which are a core resource for semiconductor production, is an important social responsibility of SK Hynix," adding, "We will continue to make efforts to improve the water quality of Bokha Stream."
