Seogangseok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, Seoul, visited the Jangjicheon Waterfront Vitality Hub Development Project site on the 11th to directly meet and communicate with residents and inspect the project area.

The Jangjicheon Waterfront Vitality Hub Development Project, selected in February 2023 as part of Seoul City's waterfront vitality hub development contest, completed its basic and detailed designs in July this year and is being promoted with the goal of starting construction in the first half of next year and opening in the second half.

Specifically, to enhance accessibility between the urban area and the waterfront, Jangjicheon will be connected to the Garden Five Central Plaza, with the installation of an observation deck and promenade stands that offer views of the stream.

Additionally, a waterfront and park connection stand will be installed to link the walking path that was cut off at Beobwon-ro, and a ramp connecting the upper cherry blossom path and the lower walking trail along Jangjicheon will be constructed to facilitate movement around the Jangjicheon area.

Spaces where residents and visitors can comfortably rest will also be provided. A cherry blossom lawn plaza will be created in the section connecting to Garden Five to establish a family-friendly resting area. Through a small-scale remodeling of Geulsaem Small Park, resident convenience facilities such as a cherry blossom linear plaza and a people’s lounge will be expanded.

To ensure comfortable walking for residents, including those with mobility challenges, the existing paving stones on the upper embankment cherry blossom path will be removed and repaved with permeable blocks to improve the walking environment.

In particular, to promote the health of residents, a masato (natural soil) path and a circular red clay path along with a red clay specialized space will be created, allowing direct contact with natural soil in the city, and an approximately 1009m earthing path will also be established.

Residents met on the Jangjicheon cherry blossom path that day expressed satisfaction with the Jangjicheon Waterfront Vitality Hub Development Project and shared their opinions.

Mr. Kim, a nearby resident, said, “Through this Jangjicheon Waterfront Vitality Hub Development Project, the long-awaited demands of residents near Jangjicheon for improved access to the Jangjicheon walking trail and expanded resting spaces can be fulfilled.”

Another resident, Mr. Lee, expressed, “I am very satisfied with the creation of the earthing path,” and added, “I hope the Jangjicheon area will be reborn as a space for rest, exercise, and social gatherings.”

Mayor Seogangseok emphasized, “Through this project, we will develop Jangjicheon into a representative waterfront vitality hub landmark in the southeastern region of Seoul,” and added, “We will also revitalize the commercial district around Garden Five.”
