On the 11th, Gwangju City signed a win-win cooperation agreement with local taxi industry stakeholders at the Gwangju Transportation Culture Training Center to promote the development of the taxi transportation business and enhance transportation convenience for citizens.
The signing ceremony was attended by about 100 people, including Mayor Kang Gi-jung, Jeong Deung-gwang, Chairman of the Gwangju Taxi Transportation Business Association, Guk Seung-du, Chairman of the Gwangju Private Taxi Transportation Business Association, Moon Hong-geun, Chairman of the Gwangju Headquarters of the National Taxi Labor Union Federation, Ahn Yoon-taek, Head of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the National Democratic Taxi Labor Union, and Choi Jin-young, Chairman of the Gwangju Regional Platform Taxi Labor Union.
The city empathized with the management difficulties faced by the taxi industry due to decreased sales after COVID-19, rising fuel and labor costs, and prepared a stabilization support plan for the taxi transportation business.
The stabilization support plan, to be implemented from next year, includes ▲ expanded support for card payment fees (40,000 KRW per vehicle) ▲ increased labor incentives for corporate taxi drivers ▲ resumption of advanced site visits for drivers ▲ review of taxi fare system rationalization ▲ collection of opinions on taxi operation restrictions.
Through this win-win cooperation agreement, the taxi associations agreed to actively cooperate with Gwangju City's taxi policies, improve the treatment of drivers, and enhance management transparency. They also pledged to actively promote kindness campaigns and employee training to prevent driver rudeness and ride refusals.
Taxi drivers promised to provide safe and friendly taxi services to Gwangju citizens and visitors for the successful hosting of international events such as the 2025 World Archery Championships.
Mayor Kang Gi-jung said, “I hope the taxi transportation industry stabilization support plan will be a meaningful step in revitalizing the taxi industry,” and urged, “Please take the lead in improving transportation convenience for citizens and establishing a safe transportation culture based on mutual trust with Gwangju City.”
