Busan's leading local company Daesun Joojo (CEO Jo Woo-hyun) has been dedicated to discovering key players who will lead the future of Korean baseball for seven years.
On the 11th at 2 p.m., Daesun Joojo announced that at the 11th Choi Dong-won Award ceremony held in the auditorium of Busan Bank's headquarters, it awarded a total prize of 10 million KRW to the 7th Daesun High School Choi Dong-won Award winner Jeong Hyun-woo and his school’s baseball team, Deoksu High School.
The "Daesun High School Choi Dong-won Award" was established in 2018 with the sponsorship of Daesun Joojo, which shares the vision of advancing Korean high school baseball. The award is given to the pitcher who demonstrated the most outstanding performance and embodied the spirit of Choi Dong-won that year. For high school baseball pitchers, it is also a moment of recognition as a player who inherits the spirit of Choi Dong-won and will be responsible for the future of Korean baseball.
The criteria for award candidates are ▶ at least 15 games pitched ▶ over 50 innings pitched ▶ at least 4 wins ▶ an earned run average (ERA) of 2.60 or lower ▶ at least 55 strikeouts. Among five candidates, Jeong Hyun-woo was selected as the final winner by an overwhelming vote from scouts of the 10 professional baseball teams.
The honored winner Jeong Hyun-woo appeared in 16 games in this year’s high school weekend league and national tournaments, pitching 48.1 innings with an 8-0 undefeated record, an ERA of 0.75, and 70 strikeouts, showcasing powerful pitching.
Left-handed pitcher Jeong Hyun-woo of Deoksu High School said, “I always keep in mind senior Choi Dong-won’s true love for baseball and fighting spirit. Although I am a rookie, I will dedicate myself to the team and become a role model player.”
Daesun Joojo CEO Jo Woo-hyun said, “I hope Jeong Hyun-woo, who will bring new vitality to domestic baseball, will grow into a player representing Korea based on the Choi Dong-won spirit he has shown so far. We will continue to strive to make the Daesun High School Choi Dong-won Award a place to glimpse the infinite potential of Korean baseball.”
Daesun Brewery is awarding a prize of 10 million won to Deoksu High School player Jeong Hyun-woo and his affiliated school.
