Mayor Kang Su-hyun Proposes Improvement and Establishment of Metropolitan Bus Routes to Daegwangwi

Meeting on Yangju Citywide Bus Issues Held
Mayor Kang Suhyun: "A Growing City Approaching 300,000 Population... Need to Expand and Improve Citywide Routes"

Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 11th that it held a meeting on the 8th at the National Land Development Exhibition Hall in Jung-gu, Seoul, with Kang Hee-eop, Chairman of the Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee Chairman), to discuss issues related to Yangju's wide-area buses.

At the meeting, Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju City, Ahn Ki-young, Chairman of the People Power Party Yangju City Party Committee, Lee Young-joo, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member, and Jeong Hyun-ho, Yangju City Council member attended. Mayor Kang conveyed requests including ▲ partial separation of route G1300 ▲ extension of the starting point of route 1304 ▲ establishment of a new wide-area bus route to the Gangnam area.

The partial separation of route G1300 is a proposal to allow some vehicles on this route to operate in the Samsung-dong area, which is a densely populated apartment complex area but lacks a wide-area route. This is in consideration of the opening of new routes to Jamsil (Deokjeong Station~Okjeong New Town~Goeup District~Jamsil Station) and Byeollae (Deokjeong Station~Okjeong New Town~Goeup District~Byeollae Station) in the first half of 2025, as well as the increase of two additional vehicles on route G1300 by the end of November.

The extension of the starting point of route 1304 involves extending the route, which currently starts from Hongjuk Industrial Complex in Baekseok-eup, to Gwangjeok-myeon, the original starting point selected at the time of route establishment. A garage is prepared in the Seokuri area of Gwangjeok-myeon, and this was proposed to expand wide-area transportation in the western region.

Additionally, the establishment of a new wide-area bus route to the Gangnam area was requested considering the rapidly increasing population demand in Okjeong and Hoecheon New Towns, to facilitate smooth commuting for citizens by creating a new wide-area bus route to Gangnam Station and other areas with the highest demand for wide-area buses in the Gangnam region.

Mayor Kang Su-hyun said, “Yangju City is the leading growth city with the highest population growth rate nationwide in 2023 and is approaching a population of 300,000, so expansion and improvement of wide-area routes are necessary,” and added, “We ask the Committee to actively take action to resolve transportation inconveniences for local residents.”

In response, Chairman Kang Hee-eop said, “Having directly heard Yangju City’s requests, we will work closely with Yangju City to improve the region’s wide-area routes going forward.”
