‘Mentoring DAY’ is a program launched with the inauguration of the 8th local government administration, matching mentors and mentees from the same department on a 1:1 basis to help new public officials adapt stably to their roles during the probationary period.
In particular, the city operates the program by narrowing the rank and career gap between mentors and mentees, gaining positive responses from junior mentees.
This year’s 3rd and 4th sessions of the training were held with the attendance of Hong Ji-seon, Deputy Mayor of Namyangju City, targeting about 40 new public officials appointed in July and August and about 80 senior public officials.
The training program utilized the Color Communication Type Analysis (CCTA) technique to share communication methods based on personality traits, and enhanced mentoring effectiveness through practical application training using mentoring theory and board games.
A new public official who participated in the training said, “I learned how to understand the roles of mentors and mentees, communicate healthily with each other, and provide feedback. I am grateful to the senior mentors who shared their valuable public service experience and know-how, and I hope to help junior public officials adapt to public service someday from the mentor’s position.”
Deputy Mayor Hong Ji-seon emphasized, “Mentees quickly develop their work capabilities in various fields by inheriting the knowledge and experience of mentors, and for mentors, the growth of mentees becomes a new stimulus, providing a mutual growth opportunity to improve leadership and expertise.”
Meanwhile, the city matched a total of 182 mentors and mentees last year and conducted mentoring for four cohorts of new public officials, and this year, it is operating by matching a total of 193 people in five cohorts.
