A high school teacher was baffled after witnessing students engaging in inappropriate physical contact on campus and warning them, only to receive complaints from parents saying it was an “excessive measure for someone who is not a full-time teacher.”
Recently, a post titled “Witnessing Students’ Physical Contact as a Teacher” was uploaded on an online community. A woman in her 20s, identified as A, who works as a contract teacher, explained, “It’s a coeducational school, and I am the homeroom teacher for a boys’ class,” adding, “Since it’s coed, there are many romantic relationships among the students.” She continued, “I think it’s natural for kids at this age to be interested in and like each other,” and “Lately, I have frequently witnessed scenes of excessive physical contact on campus.”
However, A recently witnessed a shocking scene. She said, “I happened to see a student studying with his girlfriend in an empty classroom. But when I looked closely through the window, I saw the girl rubbing the boy’s crotch with her bare foot under the desk while they were studying,” expressing her shock. “Back in our day, such physical contact at school was unimaginable, so I was very surprised,” she said, adding, “Moreover, the kids were so bold about it that I was taken aback.”
Later, A said she saw the two students intertwining or overlapping their legs and then covering them with a blanket or clothes while studying or doing assignments. A said, “Even if I try to understand kids these days, physical contact at school is inappropriate, isn’t it? The level was too extreme, so I quietly called the two students and warned them.” She also mentioned that she was even more shocked because the boy was a model student.
“How will you take responsibility if bad rumors spread?”... Parents’ Complaints
But shortly after, A received complaints from parents saying, “Isn’t this an excessive measure for someone who is not a full-time teacher?” and “Our child studies well and is liked by all the teachers, so how will you take responsibility if bad rumors spread about the child?” A said, “I was told by the parents that they were upset and that this time they would let it go quietly but to be careful,” adding, “I was so dumbfounded and disheartened. I wondered if this is how one becomes a child abuse teacher.” She went on to say, “Kids these days are so bold even when they do wrong that it’s hard for teachers.” A also said, “Even parents get extremely stressed in these situations,” and “I’m curious about what the right thing for a teacher to do in such cases is.”
Netizens who read the story reacted strongly, saying things like “Why are kids like this these days?” “Whether adults are around or not, they’re making out even at bus stops,” “Parents are ruining their own kids,” “Ignoring this is child abuse,” “The reality of declining teacher authority,” “What will you do if it doesn’t go quietly?” and “Not a full-time teacher? That really shows their character level.”
