Naju Hosts 'Farmers' Day' Event... Commitment to Jeonnam Agriculture's Leap Forward The 29th Farmers' Day ceremony was held on the 11th at the multipurpose gymnasium of Naju City Sports Park, where attendees including Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, performed a proclamation for a great leap in agriculture responding to the climate crisis. The ‘29th Agricultural Day’ commemorative event was held on the 11th at the Naju Sports Complex Multipurpose Gymnasium, attended by about 1,000 people including Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, Kim Tae-gyun, Chairman of the Jeollanam-do Council and council members, Yoon Byung-tae, Mayor of Naju, heads of related organizations, and members of agricultural, livestock, and forestry associations.


In his commemorative speech, Governor Kim Young-rok expressed his determination to "build advanced infrastructure in agriculture to lead future agriculture and realize the ‘Global Jeonnam Agricultural Era.’"


Governor Kim also presented a vision to establish advanced agricultural infrastructure such as an AI-based advanced agricultural convergence zone responding to the digital transformation and climate crisis, the Jangseong National Subtropical Crop Demonstration Center, the Haenam Agricultural Food Climate Change Response Center, and the Naju Food Tech Research Support Center.


The ceremony began with a theme video reflecting the dedication of farmers who have protected Jeonnam’s agriculture and rural areas, followed by the presentation of the Jeonnam Agriculturalist Awards, commendations for meritorious persons, a theme performance, and a performance.


Six people, including CEO Kim Joo-ho in the distribution and processing sector, received the prestigious Agriculturalist Awards, and nine people, including CEO Myung Dong-ju of Sunnyus Agricultural Corporation, received government awards such as the Industrial Medal. Additionally, 14 people, including Jeon Hyeong-nam, a member of the Jeonnam Federation of Farm Housewives, received the Governor’s Commendation for contributions to creating livable rural communities.


Notably, children Kwak Jae-i and Han Jae-yeon participated in a theme performance conveying the message that the efforts of each Jeonnam farmer illuminate the bright future of Jeonnam agriculture, deeply moving the attendees. Furthermore, through the joint performance ‘OK! Now Jeonnam, a future Jeonnam united through agriculture,’ all attendees pledged a new leap forward for Jeonnam agriculture.


Prior to this, the Korea Women Farmers Association Jeollanam-do Federation (President Kim Hyang-sook) held a rice consumption promotion event on the 9th at the Gwangju Yellow City Jangseong Local Food Direct Market.


The event was attended by Jangseong County Governor Kim Han-jong, Kang Ha-chun, Director of Agricultural Policy Division of Jeonnam Province, and members of the Korea Women Farmers Association Jeollanam-do Federation, who distributed garaetteok waffles and garaetteok made from Jeonnam rice to about 1,600 consumers visiting the direct market, promoting the excellence of Jeonnam rice.


President Kim Hyang-sook said, "Garaetteok waffles made from our rice instead of wheat flour are popular as a healthy snack," adding, "Protecting rural areas and food is a task shared by both producers and consumers, and I hope more consumers will enjoy our rice in various ways."
