A story about an army officer on vacation who helped rescue a person at the scene of a traffic accident has recently come to light and become a hot topic.


According to Yonhap News on the 11th, around 3 p.m. on the 19th of last month, a van driven by an 80-year-old driver, Mr. A, overturned on the Seohaean Expressway near Gwangmyeong Station in Gyeonggi Province.


In this accident, Mr. A suffered severe head injuries and was bleeding heavily, barely standing while holding onto the guardrail. At that moment, Lieutenant Kim Gungi of the Army's 22nd Infantry Division, who happened to be passing nearby, witnessed the scene. Lieutenant Kim stopped his vehicle and immediately ran to Mr. A to provide emergency treatment such as stopping the bleeding. He also controlled nearby traffic to prevent secondary accidents and reported the incident to 119 emergency services and the insurance company.

Thanks to Lieutenant Kim's help, Mr. A was transported to the hospital and received treatment. This heartwarming story was revealed after a citizen who witnessed the scene confirmed Lieutenant Kim's unit insignia and name tag and reported the story to the unit.


The 22nd Infantry Division awarded Lieutenant Kim a commendation from the division commander that day. Lieutenant Kim said, "As a soldier who protects the nation and its people, my first thought was that I must rescue the driver," adding, "I will continue to protect the lives and safety of the people."
