Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok, who serves as the owner of the citizen club professional football team Incheon United, officially expressed an apology for the club's "first-ever relegation to the second division."
In a statement on the 11th, Mayor Yoo said, "Considering the passion and expectations of the citizens and fans who have consistently supported us even in difficult times, the disappointment feels even greater," adding, "I feel responsible as the club owner and deeply sorry for disappointing the citizens and football fans by failing to remain in the 2024 K League 1."
He also pledged, "As the club owner, I will thoroughly diagnose and analyze the club's current situation and devote all efforts to innovative changes and reforms to transform the club into a new organization."
Incheon United was automatically relegated to the K League 2 next season after confirming the lowest position in the league this season following a loss to Daejeon on the 10th. This is the first time Incheon will play in the second division since its debut in the K League in 2004.
